School Profile FEU ROOSEVELT
This School Year, 2023-2024, FEU Roosevelt celebrates its 91st year journey as a pioneering and leading educational institution in the Province of Rizal and eastern Metro Manila as a proud member of the FEU Group of Schools
The school was established in 1933 as Marikina Academy by Marikina Mayor Wenceslao C. Dela Paz (d.1944) as a non-sectarian, private, secondary school in Marikina, Rizal. It closed in 1944 after the death of its founder.
In 1946, just after WWII, the Roosevelt Memorial High School (RHMS) was opened on the site that previously housed the Marikina Academy (est. 1933) in San Roque, Rizal by Engr.
Deogracias F. dela Paz. It was named in honor of Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR), the 32nd President of the United States, in appreciation for his role in supporting the Philippines during World War II.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) is the only U.S. president to be reelected three times and considered to be one of the greatest U.S. presidents along with George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. He served as U.S. president from 1933 until his death in 1945.
FDR led the U.S. through two of the darkest periods in U.S. history—the Great Depression in the 1930s and most of World War II. He advocated strong government programs to support needy Americans and established America as a world leader. Many parks and schools around the world have been named after FDR. He believed that the progress of a nation depends on a well-educated citizenry. Most importantly, he understood that the essence of democracy is a free people engaged in the search for truth and understanding in an effort to make a better world for themselves and their children. Based on these principles, he opposed colonialism and as early as 1901, while still a student, he advocated the granting of independence to the Philippines.
The institution became known for providing good quality high school education. Over the decades, it expanded to offer the full educational curriculum from preschool to graduate school across several campuses and in 1977, changed its name to Roosevelt College.
Under Romeo P. dela Paz (RCI president, 1979–2016, and the son of the RMHS founder),
RCI achieved greater geographical coverage, diverse and expansive program offerings,
widespread use of educational technology, and, at its peak, a student population
approaching 30,000.
To spur RCI’s growth in the coming decades, RCI became a member of the Far Eastern
University (FEU) group of schools in May 2016. FEU President Michael M. Alba, PhD, took
over as concurrent RCI president. In 2019, RCI proudly re-introduced itself as
FEU Roosevelt and adopted a new logo. Dr. Alba introduced far-reaching innovations that involve using effective educational strategies blended with technology and upgraded infrastructure and systems to bring FEU Roosevelt teachers and students into the fast- and ever-changing 21st century.
