Civic Action 1: Research

When I first began, I knew little to nothing about euthanization but I knew I wanted to help save animals. Therefore, for my first civic action, I conducted research and became more aware of euthanization. I found all my local shelters and read over their policies. The shelters I researched more in-depth are Valley Oak SPCA, Visalia Animal Care Shelter, and Tulare County Animal Services. I knew I had to do something local rather than global to make more of an impact. During my time of research, I established that Valley Oak SPCA is a non-profit, no-kill resume shelter and vet clinic but it does offer euthanasia services only by appointment. Visalia Animal Care Shelter is not a “no-kill” shelter but it is stated that euthanization is the last option. Lastly, Tulare County Animal Services did not disclose information regarding euthanization on their page. Through this action, I learned how to gather and uncover information.
