Jessie

Introduction

Hi, my name is Jessie Colussi-Kenny, and I’ll be going into grade 12 at Charlottetown Rural in the fall. I am one of eight students participating in UPEI PROGRES program. I was very happy that I was selected for this program due to my interest in mechanical engineering and 3D printers. For my project, I’ll be working with Dr. Greg McSorely to compare 3d printers and brainstorm ways to compare the printers. The goal of the project is for someone to be able to read my report and find out the best 3D printer to use to achieve their goal.

Week 1

For week one, on Monday June 9th, all PROGRES women met in Bay 105, and met Dr. Hsiao. We got tours of the campus, the SDE building, and had general lab safety training. We met with our mentors and talked about our projects. For my project, I'll be learning the differences between different types of 3D printer using methods to compare the printers. The goal of this project is to find the information someone could use to find out the best method of printers that would be used for the objective they are trying to achieve. On Tuesday and Wednesday we continued with lab WHMIS training, and also on Wednesday we had our first intro to Solidworks with Jeff, which is a software that makes 3D objects. On Thursday and Friday we continued on our projects and wrote our reading reflections and blogs.
