Lent and Easter

The season of Lent is a time of prayer, spiritual discipline, and self-examination in preparation for celebrating the resurrection of the Lord at Easter. What we hear during Lent is the power and possibility of God’s grace: the offer of salvation and new life through our faith and discipleship.

Ash Wednesday

March 6 at 12:30pm and 6:00pm

Worship and Anointing with Oil or Ashes

We begin the season of Lent with ashes and dust — realizing the limits of human life, and our need for each other and for God’s grace because we cannot do or be or manage everything. We will offer a worship service and a chance for reflection at 12:30pm and at 6:00pm, both in the sanctuary. Whether you come for anointing or ashes or reflect privately at home, we invite you to prayerfully remember the grief and the promise of “ashes to ashes, dust to dust. All of us go down to the dust, yet even at the grave we make our song…”

Sunday morning services

March 10 – April 7 at 10:00am

Lent is a season of unfolding honesty and truth-telling about our lives and our world. It begins with the humble recognition that we are all human beings with finite lives. This is a levelling confession because no one is exempt from the dust from which we are formed or the ashes to which we return. We are all equal in those ashes, from those with the greatest wealth and power to those who have little or nothing at all. The journey of Lent leads us to embrace a liberating God of creation, known in and through relationship.

Palm/Passion Sunday

April 14 at 10:00am

Worship & Communion

This is a family-friendly service! We’ll tell the story of Holy Week, starting with the Parade of Palms led by percussion instruments and saxophone. Then we learn about the plot against Jesus, share the Lord’s Supper, and hear the story of the garden of Gethsemane, the arrest, and the disciples’ abandonment of Jesus, all leading up to his crucifixion.

Holy Thursday

April 18 at 7:00pm

Tenebrae Worship & Communion

The Holy Thursday service is one of endings and beginnings. What was begun on Ash Wednesday is brought to a close here tonight. What begins today does not end until the resurrection on Easter. The theme is love, our Savior’s love for us, in giving himself in bread and wine, in dying upon the cross.

Easter/Resurrection Sunday

April 21 at 10:00am

Worship & Communion

Risen indeed! We will celebrate the feast of the resurrection with brass and cymbal and song as we gather at the table and remember that when all hope was lost, God brought a new beginning. From the grave to glory, we proclaim him Lord!
