We partnered with Binghamton University to present The Saint John’s Bible to our community, with lectures, learning opportunities, and exhibitions of 17 of the illuminations here at church and at the University Art Museum, February 12–23. The Saint John’s Bible is the first completely handwritten and illuminated Bible to be commissioned since the invention of the printing press in the 16th century.

A full-size replica of “The Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles” (Volume 6 of this 1,100+ page Bible) remains on loan to UPC and is on display in the sanctuary.

Ash Wednesday worship services

March 6 at 12:30pm and 6:00pm

Worship and Anointing with Oil or Ashes

We begin the season of Lent with ashes and dust — realizing the limits of human life, and our need for each other and for God’s grace because we cannot do or be or manage everything. We will offer a worship service and a chance for reflection at 12:30pm and at 6:00pm, both in the sanctuary. Whether you come for anointing or ashes or reflect privately at home, we invite you to prayerfully remember the grief and the promise of “ashes to ashes, dust to dust. All of us go down to the dust, yet even at the grave we make our song…”

Holy Thursday worship service

April 18 at 7:00pm

Tenebrae Worship & Communion

The Holy Thursday service is one of endings and beginnings. What was begun on Ash Wednesday is brought to a close here tonight. What begins today does not end until the resurrection on Easter. The theme is love, our Savior’s love for us, in giving himself in bread and wine, in dying upon the cross.
