The International Union for the Conservation of Nature defines Nature-based Solutions or (NbS) as solutions to “address societal challenges through actions to protect, sustainably manage, and restore natural and modified ecosystems, benefiting people and nature at the same time”.
Technical consultants from the University of the Philippines Los Baños led this project under the Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia: Philippines (SIPA PH). The project focused on Butuan City's case in light of infrastructure development in Caraga Region, Philippines.
The Working with Nature Training Workshop is among the activities of the technical consultants from UPLB. The intended learners for the training workshop are those involved in local development and sectoral planning, including municipal/city/barangay officials who are part of committees on planning and development.

IUCN Global standards provide guidance on selecting the most appropriate NbS that shall help solve the societal challenges.

The Working with Nature Training Workshop is an output of the project entitled " Incorporating Green Strategies Towards Sustainable Infrastructure Planning and Development: Mainstreaming Nature-based Solutions and Spatial Planning for a Resilient Butuan City" funded by the WWF Philippines. This project is part of WWF’s Sustainable Infrastructure in Asia Program (SIPA), an initiative under the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
