History of UP Tacloban

College Library

The establishment of UP College Tacloban was opened and inaugurated on July 2, 1973, with no less than the former President of the Republic of the Philippines, President Ferdinand Marcos, and Mrs. Imelda Marcos as guests of honor; hence, the creation of UP Visayas Tacloban Library. It started with an initial collection of 318 volumes of duplicate books from UP at Tarlac and 8 titles of periodical collections. The library was housed in the former Social Hall at the second floor of the Provincial Capitol building.

In 1981, after seven years of operation of UP Visayas Tacloban College Library, the collection grew tremendously with donations, direct acquisitions from the college, and materials from the University Library. The collection for that year had reached almost 9,000 volumes.

In 2007, the UPV Tacloban Library was transferred from the old library to the newly built three-story Library building which houses the whole College Library on the second level.

In 2023, UPV Tacloban Library changed its name to UP Tacloban College Library with the implementation of the elevation of UP Tacloban College to an autonomous unit of the UP System under the Office of the President under EO No. PAJ 23-01 effective May 03, 2023.
