OVERVIEW
The UPD REB will carry out the task of providing an independent review of research protocols involving human participants that are submitted to the UPD REB by Research, Extension, and Professional Staff (REPS), faculty, other employees, and students of the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD). UPD REB will cover all institutions and departments of UPD that do not have a research ethics board.
Research involving live vertebrates should be reviewed by the UPD Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (UPD IACUC), following Administrative Order No. FRN-23-040. Research with biosafety implications should consult the UPD Institutional Biosafety Committee (UPD-IBC) following Administrative Order No. FRN-22-165.
The UP Diliman Research Ethics Board is tasked to:
Ensure the safety, protect the rights, and promote the welfare and well-being of research participants;
Issue the ethical approval required for the implementation of any research it has reviewed and approved;
Promote research integrity by identifying and resolving conflicts of interest;
Ensure the proper documentation of and adherence to the confidentiality rule and policy on informed consent; and
Monitor the progress of ongoing research until its completion.
