The Filipino identity is ever-evolving. In every period that passed by, the preconceived notion of what is Filipino; who are these people, what are their culture, and how it came to be, are a building prospect in understanding what truly means to be a Filipino at different times. Together, we took inspiration of different eras’ views of the depiction of Filipino identity and compiled it into one.
The title Paghahabi is the Filipino word translation of "weaving". It was chosen to symbolize the weaving of Filipino identity across time, reflecting the nation's journey from the Pre-colonial period through Spanish, American, and Japanese colonization, to the Contemporary Era. Each era represents a distinct thread, contributing to the rich and complex tapestry of Filipino culture.
This website serves as an exhibit, showcasing the weavers' collective works inspired by and referencing literary, visual, and other artistic creations from these historical periods. Through this exhibit, Paghahabi aims to highlight how each era has shaped and influenced Filipino identity, honoring the past while exploring its impact on contemporary artistic expressions.
