Six weeks have already come and again.
In UNIT I, I learned about concepts of sound including the properties of sound, safe sound exposure, noise pollution, psychoacoustics and the difference between critical and analytical listening. I didn’t know most of these before, and it was fascinating to see how sound works and how it impacts us. Learning these gave me a deeper appreciation and greater awareness for the sounds around me. One surprising thing I learned from the unit was that audio production was considered undervalued or the least important part in some audio-visual media.
Then in UNIT II, I learned
I have yet to study UNIT III, but I have skimmed it. The whole unit seemed a little overwhelming because of the new concepts and learning it being critical to the making of my final project.
As for my final project, which is an a cappella cover of “Love Song” by Sara Bareilles, I am beginning to prepare for its pre-production. It will start next week and involves acoustic treatment of my room and the arrangement of the a cappella. I have already found a couple of music sheets for my arrangement’s reference, and a cheap acoustic treatment solution. I’m planning to get absorbers and install them on critical areas of the room such as the wall behind the recording area and the left and right walls. I'm still learning how to use REAPER, but for now, I'm just focusing on figuring out the best settings for recording.
I am a bit anxious on going forward with the final project. I do know that it is feasible, but the complexity of arranging, recording, and producing all the vocal parts on my own is daunting. Although, I’m also looking forward to
