How do scientists work together to transform curiosity into new knowledge?
Scientific research is often remembered through its equations, simulations, publications, and discoveries. Behind every mathematical model, however, are people who ask questions, challenge assumptions, refine ideas, and learn from one another.
This project was carried out by a small research team united by a common interest in computational science, mathematical modeling, and the study of complex systems. Although the team consisted of only two faculty members, the collaboration embodied an important principle of academic research: scientific discovery is both the creation of new knowledge and the cultivation of future researchers.
The project therefore served two complementary purposes. It advanced a program of research on fictional epidemiological events while simultaneously providing opportunities for scholarly collaboration, mentoring, and professional growth.

Note: After the research project, Mr. Encinas (Joman) has been promoted to Assistant Professor, and then later on left the University to pursue higher spiritual service.
An important objective of many university research programs extends beyond producing publications and presentations. They also seek to strengthen the research culture of academic institutions by developing future researchers through collaborative investigation.
In this project, mentorship was not treated as a separate activity from research itself. Rather, it was integrated into every stage of the scientific process—from formulating research questions and constructing mathematical models to interpreting simulation results and communicating discoveries to the broader scientific community.
This collaboration reflects a broader academic tradition in which research is both a means of generating knowledge and a means of preparing the next generation of scholars to continue that pursuit.
Scientific research rarely progresses in a straight line. Ideas are proposed, questioned, refined, tested, and sometimes reinterpreted as understanding deepens.
Throughout this project, the research process followed a continuous cycle of inquiry:
Each stage benefited from collaboration, critical discussion, and shared reflection. In this way, the project illustrates that scientific knowledge is not produced by isolated effort but through an ongoing exchange of ideas.
Although research projects often identify individual roles and responsibilities, their lasting value lies in the knowledge created through collaboration. Mathematical models, software, publications, and presentations are tangible products of research, but they are also expressions of a shared intellectual process built upon curiosity, rigorous thinking, constructive critique, and mutual learning.
The relationship between mentor and mentee within this project represents one example of how universities sustain scientific inquiry across generations. As experienced researchers share methods, perspectives, and habits of critical thinking with emerging faculty members, knowledge is transmitted not only through publications but also through people.
The ideas presented throughout this Narrative Scholarly Archive are intended to remain open to reinterpretation and extension. Just as this project benefited from collaboration between researchers, future work will continue through new students, faculty members, and interdisciplinary partnerships who build upon the questions explored here.
Scientific discovery is therefore best understood not as the accomplishment of individuals working alone, but as a continuing conversation that spans disciplines, institutions, and generations.
Every scientific discovery has authors, but every enduring scientific idea has a community. Research advances because people ask questions together, challenge one another respectfully, and pass knowledge from one generation to the next.
