MMS 173 Assignment 1: KNOWING WHERE I'M AT (Part 1)
Looking through my phone gallery, I realized that I don’t really have many photos that I’ve personally taken. The reason for this, I know, is because I don’t go out that often which gives me less opportunities to capture more of my surroundings. Nonetheless, I have managed to take three of the best pictures from my gallery.
The first picture was taken in Greenbelt 5. It was a hot day and I remember taking this picture because I found interest in the shadow as well as the structure of the building. In addition, the floor tiles were also worth noting. Nonetheless, because it is a picture that I randomly took while standing at the side of the mall building, I think that the emphasis on the subject is lacking. Although the picture was taken with the intention of capturing the unique building design and interesting lighting, the building is not really highlighted as much. I think that if I took the picture in a way that makes it make up about 80% of the shot, it would have been better. Moreover, only a bit of the shadow was shown which makes the picture seem like it’s not about the establishment and its shadow but about the overall view of the place.
This picture was taken in Stilts Resort Calatagan, Batangas. I remember this day being windy and cold, thus gloomy, however when evening came, the lights of the facilities as well as the dark blue sky shined through. Those subtle lights brought focus to the zigzag structure of the lodging and gave a pretty ambiance. The shadows of the clouds were also clearer than they were in the day which made it better. This picture to me was the best one that I have taken so far. There was good emphasis on the floating cottages which made its unique design stand out. Moreover the position at which I took the picture was also just right to feature how the cottages are connected.
The final picture was taken during our Civil Welfare Training Service project wherein we visited the Regional Haven for Women and Girls organization, an institution built for disadvantaged women and girls. These cacti were a part of the organization’s ways of supporting their members. At that time, I was fascinated by the different kinds of plants, especially the cacti, which led me to take a quick picture. Despite being taken at random, the variety of the cacti made for a great subject and focus. Nonetheless, I still think that the way in which the photo was taken lacked a bit of purpose and the reason for this is because the angle looks a bit off. Maybe it would’ve been better if I adjusted the angle while taking the picture or if I took it in a closer distance.
