Device: Nikon dx af-s nikkor 18-55mm
Time: All photos are taken within the timeframe of 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM (the exif always gives the wrong time and date)
Place: Infront of house
Camera Settings:
Shutter Speed: 1/40
Aperture: f/6.3
ISO: 400
White Balance: Direct Sunlight
Design Elements, Principles, and Composition Technique used: Texture, Emphasis, Overlapping
Focusing on the Slow Shutter Speed, I decided to turn down the speed enough to show the difference between the two slow and fast. Aperture of f/6.3 as a standard setting, just enough to emphasize the object. An ISO of 400, enough to let light in but will not overexpose the shot. Lastly, a white balance of direct sunlight as this helps make the photo look unfiltered and balanced.
For this, I asked for assistance from my brother to spin the hat while I take a picture and thus, the reason why I considered this photo to overlap. The most noticeable element in the photo is the texture due to the slow shutter speed, the hat has a soft look. Lastly, I took this photo with the intension to emphasize the hat in the middle.
Place: Infront of house
Camera Settings:
Shutter Speed: 1/800
Aperture: f/6.3
ISO: 3200
White Balance: Direct Sunlight
Design Elements, Principles, and Composition Technique used: Texture, Emphasis, Overlapping
Focusing on the Fast Shutter Speed now, I decided to turn up the speed enough to show the difference between the two speeds. As expected, fast shutter speed was able to catch the moving object and even made the photo look as if it did not move. Standard Aperture of f/6.3 and an ISO of 3200, this was supposed to make the photo visibly bright enough, however, I may misunderstood which is the reason why the photo looks very dark.
For this, the reason why I considered this photo to overlap was because of my brother's arm. The most noticeable element in the photo is the texture again due to the fast shutter speed, the soft look has become sharp. Lastly, I also took this photo with the intention to emphasize the hat in the middle.
Place: Infront of house
Camera Settings:
Shutter Speed: 1/400
Aperture: f/3.5
ISO: 3200
White Balance: Cloud
Design Elements, Principles, and Composition Technique used: Color, Harmony and Balance, Diagonal
Focus on the other settings, I decided to set the shutter speed at a random value as the rest of the pictures was taken steadily and the object is still. Aperture of f/3.5 to showcase the effect of wide aperture and an ISO of 3200 as to make the object seem balanced with the other elements such as the colors and the background. Lastly, a white balance of Cloud to give a warm effect but not as warm as Shade.
For this, it was a bit hard to know what composition I should use but I decided to go for the diagonal because of the effect of the clothesline. The most noticeable element in the photo is the harmony and balance of the object, color, and background. Lastly, I took this photo with the intention to balance the elements together as it is a wide aperture shot.
Place: Infront of house
Camera Settings:
Shutter Speed: 1/400
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO: 6400
White Balance: Cloud
Design Elements, Principles, and Composition Technique used: Color and Pattern, Emphasis and Unity, Rule of Thirds
Focus on the other settings, I decided to set the shutter speed at a random value as the rest of the pictures was taken steadily and the object is still. Aperture of f/5.6 to showcase the effect of narrow aperture (I intented to go beyond f/5.6 but when I tried to, it did not let me which confused me because the standard aperture is f/6.3) and an ISO of 6400 so that there is enough light but does not overexposed the object. Lastly, a white balance of Cloud to give a warm effect but not as warm as Shade and give a feeling of summer.
For this, the most noticeable element would be the color (summer like) and the pattern that is shown on the straw hat. The color emphasizes the hat while keeping it unified with the other elements and used Rules of Thirds as my main composition as it fits the current situation.

Shutter Speed: 1/400
Aperture: f/3.5
ISO: 6400
White Balance: Cloud
Design Elements, Principles, and Composition Technique used: Pattern, Unity, Rule of Thirds
Focus on the other settings, I decided to set the shutter speed at a random value as the rest of the pictures was taken steadily and the object is still. Aperture of f/3.5 and an ISO of 6400 to showcase how light sensitivity affects the shots. Lastly, a white balance of Cloud to give a warm effect but not as warm as Shade and give a feeling of summer.
For this, the most noticeable element would be the pattern that is shown on the straw hat as the rest of the colors are balance alongside the object. The color makes the hat unified with the background colors. I also used Rule of Thirds as my composition for this shot.
Place: Infront of house
Camera Settings:
Shutter Speed: 1/400
Aperture: f/3.5
ISO: 400
White Balance: Cloud
Design Elements, Principles, and Composition Technique used: Color, Contrast, Rule of Thirds
Focus on the other settings, I decided to set the shutter speed at a random value as the rest of the pictures was taken steadily and the object is still. Aperture of f/3.5 and an ISO of 400 to showcase how dark the shot can be with low light sensitivity. Lastly, a white balance of Cloud to give a warm effect but due the low ISO, the photo looks like it was taken at night.
For this, I believe there is contrast because of the dark background and the underexposed straw hat. The dark color being the most noticeable at first glance and the standard composition of Rule of Thirds.
Place: Infront of house
Camera Settings:
Shutter Speed: 1/250
Aperture: f/6.3
ISO: 3200
White Balance: Direct Sunlight
Design Elements, Principles, and Composition Technique used: Color, Emphasis, Rule of Thirds
Focus on the other settings, I decided to set the shutter speed at a random value as the rest of the pictures was taken steadily and the object is still. Aperture of f/3.5 and an ISO of 400 to showcase how dark the shot can be with low light sensitivity. Lastly, a white balance of Direct Sunlight to give a realistic look of the sun on the object.
For this, I believe that there is emphasis with the hat because of the dark background and the brightness of the hat. The color being the most noticeable at first glance and the standard composition of Rule of Thirds because of the object was hanged from a side mirror of an e-bike.
Place: Infront of house
Camera Settings:
Shutter Speed: 1/250
Aperture: f/6.3
ISO: 3200
White Balance: Direct Sunlight
Design Elements, Principles, and Composition Technique used: Pattern, Unity, Overlapping
Focus on the other settings, I decided to set the shutter speed at a random value as the rest of the pictures was taken steadily and the object is still. A Standard Aperture of f/6.3 and an ISO of 3200 to showcase the sunlight hitting the object. Lastly, a white balance of Direct Sunlight to give a realistic look of the sun on the object.
For this, I believe that there is Unity between the elements, the hat is still emphasize but not too much that it will be the only thing that viewers will notice. The pattern being the most noticeable at first glance and the an overlapping composition because of the object and the e-bike together.
Place: Infront of house
Camera Settings:
Shutter Speed: 1/320
Aperture: f/6.3
ISO: 3200
White Balance: Shade
Design Elements, Principles, and Composition Technique used: Color and Texture, Emphasis and Contrast, Perspective
Focus on the other settings, I decided to set the shutter speed at a random value as the rest of the pictures was taken steadily and the object is still. Following a standard aperture of f/6.3 and an ISO of 3200 to make the photo bright but not overexposed. Lastly, a white balance of Shade to give the photo a very warm and golden hour effect.
For this, I believe that there is emphasis and contrast with the hat because of the color of the straw hat. The color being the most noticeable at first glance as it makes the hat stand out from the other elements and perspective as the composition because of the shot was taken from a high angle which gives a perspective look to it.
Place: Infront of house
Camera Settings:
Shutter Speed: 1/320
Aperture: f/6.3
ISO: 3200
White Balance: Fluorescent
Design Elements, Principles, and Composition Technique used: Color, Unity, Rule of Thirds
Focus on the other settings, I decided to set the shutter speed at a random value as the rest of the pictures was taken steadily and the object is still. Following a standard aperture of f/6.3 and an ISO of 3200 to make the photo bright but not overexposed. Lastly, a white balance of Fluorescent to give the photo a cool effect to it, making it seem like it is not taken in bright daylight.
For this, I believe that there is Unity instead of emphasis in this photo, the colors are more mixed into each other even though the object is up close. The color being the most noticeable at first glance becuase of the blue effect and a standard composition of rule of thirds because it fitted the current situation rather than constantly putting the object in the middle.
Place: Infront of house
Camera Settings:
Shutter Speed: 1/320
Aperture: f/6.3
ISO: 3200
White Balance: Shade
Design Elements, Principles, and Composition Technique used: Color and Pattern, Harmony and Balance, Rule of Thirds
Focus on the other settings, I decided to set the shutter speed at a random value as the rest of the pictures was taken steadily and the object is still. Following a standard aperture of f/6.3 and an ISO of 3200 to make the photo bright but not overexposed. Lastly, a white balance of Shade to give the photo a warm effect (this specific shade reminds me of filters that are commonly used in some posters).
For this, I believe that there is Harmony and Balance within the elements inside the photo, the straw hat emphasized but so is the light and color. The warm color would be the most noticeable element as it gives a golden hour feeling to it and the pattern that is seen on the hat. Lastly, once again using rule of thirds as my main composition as it fits the situation (it helps notice the background while still focusing on the object).
