This year’s theme is:
“Sana All: Achieving health care for all people by all health care professionals through all essential health service across all life course.”
Introduction
The language of health professions education has drastically changed over the last 10 years. Years ago, students of medicine were being prepared to be “practice-ready.” However, in recent years, the language of health education and medical education has changed, emphasizing that students should be “team-ready,” emphasizing the importance of interprofessional collaboration and interprofessional education.
According to the World Health Organization, Interprofessional Education (IPE) occurs when two or more professionals learn about, from, and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes (WHO, 2010). Given the increasing complexities of patient care, compounded by the limited financial and human resources of our country, Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (IPE and CP) are necessary for our students.
This integrative activity involving the various allied health programs of our University aims to establish a culture of interprofessional collaboration and, in doing so, prepare our students as effective primary care providers.
Activity Objective and Outcomes
With the general objective of enabling the students to practice interprofessional collaboration in their chosen fields, the College of Medicine has collaborated with the different allied health colleges of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. After consultative meetings and communications, the College of Nursing, Physical Therapy, and Department of Social Work will be participating in this activity.
At the end of this 3-day activity, all student participants must be able to:
1. Apply primary health care principles in diverse populations and settings.
2. Create innovative solutions for effective primary health care delivery.
3. Communicate effectively in various formats (oral, written, and multimedia).
4. Utilize best-evidence data in developing strategies for primary health care delivery.
5. Practice interprofessional education and collaboration within the healthcare team.
