“Honor and Excellence in the Service of the Nation”
The motto of the university stands on the integrity of its employees to ensure that it is followed through in every word and action taken. In spite of the merit and technical capabilities of its workers in doing their tasks and functions, values in executing customer service as part of a government agency remains to be a challenge for some employees adapting to the work culture. To address this concern within the campus, the UP Manila Human Resource Development Office (UPM-HRDO), in partnership with the UP Office of the Vice President for Administration (OVPA), conducts the UP LINANG: Mga Serye ng Pagsasanay para sa Pagpapaunlad ng Paglilingkod sa Pamantasan at Bayan.
The training lasted for five days which was conducted last November 24 to 28, 2025, from 8AM to 4PM, at the 8F Social Hall at the UP-PGH Central Block Building. The UP System’s learning and development initiatives for its administrative staff brought upon the conduct of this venture, in support of UP’s flagship efforts on maintaining quality management. The UP LINANG began with an opening program on its first day, followed by the three modules to be discussed, the graduation of participants and the closing program.
The first day and start of the long week event, the University of the Philippines President, Atty. Angelo A. Jimenez, graced the audience with an inspiring virtual message highlighting the importance of LINANG to its employees as well as the outcome of the preliminary efforts done by the initiative within the past year. Expectation setting activities were done for the participants to aid in fostering communication and camaraderie with co-participants for the smooth deliverance of the long-week activities.
After which, the rest of the day was allotted to the introduction of the three keynote speakers which will spearhead the modules of UP LINANG by thoroughly elaborating the participants' expectations and activities that will be delivered.
The Relationship Operations and Sensitivity Enhancement Seminar (ROSES), which served as the first training module and was conducted on the second day of the event, was facilitated by Dr. Richard S. Javier, Assistant Vice President for Administration in Human Resource Development. The seminar featured dynamic sessions designed to enhance participants’ emotional intelligence and sensitivity in managing workplace relationships through a series of group activities, discussions, and self-reflective outputs, enabling them to develop greater self-awareness, trust, communication, and leadership skills.
The Work Attitude and Value Enhancement Seminar (WAVES), which served as the second training module, was conducted on the third day of the week. Facilitated by Prof. Tiffany Adelaine G. Tan, Assistant Vice President for Administration in Organizational Development and Operations and the UP LINANG Program Manager, the seminar featured interactive sessions that encouraged participants to examine the significance of their roles and to foster a harmonized approach to work, leadership, and collaboration within an institution committed to nation-building.
The Completed Staff Work (CSW) seminar, serving as the third and final training module, took place on the fourth day of the week. Led by Mr. Pepito T. Dizon, University Extension Specialist III at the UP National Engineering Center and a member of the UP LINANG Technical Working Group, CSW was presented as a valuable process with multiple advantages, particularly in addressing the increasing demands for well-informed organizational decision-making and ensuring the efficient delivery of public services to stakeholders.
The three-day training was concluded on the fifth day with a recap of what had happened and achieved during the entire week as well as a small graduation ceremony wherein participants expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the UP LINANG Team, OVPA officials, and UPM HRDO staff for their effective handling and conduct of the week-long seminar.
A total of 62 participants for Day 1, 55 participants for Day 2, 51 participants for Days 3 and 4, and 45 participants for Day 5, who went and indulged in the three modules offered by the UP LINANG week-long training.
