Being prepared for the future not only gives peace of mind in the present, but also stability that the future will be filled with certainty. Employees might have heard of the benefits when reaching their retirement phase, however, more elaboration and explanation is needed to fully grasp what entails a retiring employee.
To assist the UP Manila employees in knowing their inclusion benefits and privileges when it comes to retirement, the UP Manila Human Resource Development Office opened a Pre-Retirement Seminar involving a discussion led by fund or insurance agencies which can be joined by optional or compulsory retirees as well as employees aged 55 and above. This seminar was held on October 10, 2025 from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM, at the Class 1963 Lecture Room of the Calderon Hall in UP College of Medicine.
The first invited agency was the Home Development Mutual Fund or more commonly known as the Pag-IBIG Fund, a government-owned and controlled corporation responsible for the administration of the national savings program and affordable shelter financing for Filipinos. Led by Ms. Ma. Clarizar J. Magluyan, a Marketing Specialist / Account Manager, discussed the benefits and services a Pag-IBIG member can contribute to in order for their savings to grow. Attendees were very eager to understand whether these fund agencies were linked to the Maharlika fund and through this seminar, the invited speakers were able to shed light on the said information.
The second invited agency is from the Government Service Insurance System or GSIS, a social insurance institution providing a defined benefit scheme under the law. Ms. Kristine Deborah D. Cruz, a Staff Officer III of the GSIS, spoke about the details of being a GSIS member, especially on matters of contributions, life, retirement and other benefits, as well as documentary requirements when retiring. Inquiries on reassurance regarding GSIS pensions (e.g., actuarial life of pensions) were raised and were properly answered by the invited speakers.
The third invited speaker is from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or PhilHealth, a national health insurance program that also offers health care services to its members. Headed by Mr. Ian Scott P. Pelejo, an Accounts Officer, elaborated on the ongoing services and new benefits offered by PhilHealth. In fact, participants expressed their interest in the YAKAP Program offered by PhilHealth, which is a rebranding of the former program named E-Konsulta.Β
The final speaker is from the UP Manila HRDO, tackling the procedures and documents needed for retiring employees. Ms. Charmaine N. Aban, from the Leaves and Benefits Section led the discussion and entertained questions from the participants pertaining to their retirement privileges and benefits, such as important dates or information regarding retirement and clarifications on how to file their retirement benefits.
A closing message was delivered by Mr. Michael Antonio F. Mendoza, the HRDO Director. He emphasizedΒ the importance of our retirees in establishing their offices or services to how it is today as well as their commitment to the university which is evidenced by the number of years they have served and also the dedication they have. He also wished for the retirees to be informed of the process regarding their retirement so that they will know which offices to go to.
All in all, a total of 60 participants attended the Pre-Retirement Seminar which were both meaningful and engaging to the organizers and participants.
We, the Learning and Development Section of the UP Manila HRDO, strive to deliver caravans and training programs that are both conducive and beneficial to our fellow UP Manila constituents.Β
