The UP Manila Human Resource Development Office, in collaboration with the Center for Gender and Women Studies, is enjoined in observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW). One of the continuing initiatives to increase awareness of violence wielded against women and children is to participate in the global campaign through conducting this webinar.
The UP Manila HRDO invited Asst. Prof. Archie Lawrence P. Geneta, RPsy, from the UP Manila Department of Behavioral Sciences of the College of Arts and Sciences, as the resource person to talk on the webinar on Online Sexual Harassment. The webinar was held on December 9, 2022, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, through an online platform via Zoom, participated by 34 UP Manila employees.
The training objectives include (1) a discussion of what is online sexual harassment, its prevalence in the country, and its impact on the victim most especially cases of women and children, (2) an articulation of relevant laws and policies in the Philippines, and (3) guidance on how to address online sexual harassment.
To help the participants become more aware and knowledgeable on how to effectively respond and address sexual harassment, Asst. Prof. Archie gave an overview of the relevant laws that protect all individuals from various forms of harassment and violence. To also address this concern, individuals can contribute by knowing how to adaptively respond to the situation and applying effective preventive measures and interventions concerning the issue.
By becoming more aware of the reality and threats of harassment and violence and by promoting a more sensitive, inclusive work environment, these crucial situations can be handled more compassionately.
