UNILAB CARAVAN
Nothing beats a sound and healthy mind and body. Oftentimes, it is the hardest thing to maintain as well as to sustain physically and nutritionally given the demands of our work in order to meet the best extent of our services. Even if UP Manila and its employees are beside the pioneering tertiary hospital in the country, health care services remain formidable to face whether it is for free, at an affordable rate, or expensive in cost.
In its unceasing endeavor to provide services beyond the customary agencies to the UP Manila employees, the Human Resource Development Office (HRDO) has partnered with United Laboratories Incorporated (UNILAB) to conduct their UNILAB Caravan: Alaga sa Manggagawa under the Bayanihan sa Kalusugan Program of UNILAB in connection with the HRDO’s Caravan Series: Government Services Access Express project. This was carried out on August 5-6, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the 8/F, Social Hall, UP-PGH Central Block Building.
Thanks to UNILAB’s initiative, physical examinations, medical services such as consultations and screenings, and disease education are provided free of charge to UP Manila employees and their families.
Physical examinations include a physical exam and screening of vitals/blood pressure, uric acid, FBS, hemoglobin, cholesterol, and bone density.
Medical services offered were a one-on-one consultation with a doctor, giving out sample medicines, as well as distribution of digital discount coupons that employees may avail or consume if they need.
Disease education was also conducted through interactive sessions in identifying common health risks and strategies for prevention and management (e.g., for diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases).
Attendees of the caravan expressed that they were most grateful for the opportunity to have themselves and their families checked within the comfort of their workplace and during their official time, lessening their stress when considering their well-being while increasing their knowledge about themselves and prioritizing the things that they can do to address their ailment.
The caravan ended with relief and reassurance for both the organizers and the attendees. A total of 391 UP Manila employees and 101 families of the employees have been catered by UNILAB’s team, amplifying their mission of building a healthier Philippines, starting by fostering a culture of health, wellness, and education for all the employees of UP Manila.
We, the Learning and Development Section of the UP Manila HRDO, strive to deliver caravans and training programs that are both conducive and beneficial to our fellow UP Manila constituents.
