PHILHEALTH CARAVAN
There are plenty of ways for individuals to monitor their health status, from going to private clinics, public hospitals, and even requesting a private health professional. But with the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or most commonly referred to as PhilHealth, they intend to build a healthier Philippines through their renewed programs and services in order to serve its constituents beyond the conventional notions.
To showcase our support in such endeavors, the University of the Philippines Manila, along with the University of the Philippines Health Service (UPHS) has been ensuring that the UP Manila community will be given opportunities to prioritize one’s health. And with the help of the UP Manila Human Resource Development Office (HRDO) and the UP Health Service, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth Inc.) successfully conducted a PhilHealth Caravan here at the 8F Social Hall, UP-PGH Main Building on October 8 and 15, 2025. This two-day caravan is part of the HRDO Caravan Series: Government Services Access Express initiative to improve access to services of partner agencies for the UP Manila employees and their families.
The first day of the caravan, October 8, 2025, the attendees were brimming with excitement upon the services provided by the PhilHealth. They offered new member registrations, updating of records, issuance of new or renewed PhilHealth IDs, and member portal assistance; all stations were lined with employees waiting to have their turn.
On the other side of the hall, the UPHS can be found with their joint services with PhilHealth. They registered new members of the YAKAP program of PhilHealth by following easy to follow instructions: (1) enrolling their data on UPHS and PhilHealth on the First Patient Encounter (FPE) Area, (2) filling out the necessary forms and have their temperature and blood pressure taken, (3) and finally, checked by a licensed professional doctor; all of which as provided by the UPHS at the same time and place.
In addition, the UPHS also provided free flu vaccinations for UP employees and their family members which were warmly received during that day.
After a week, on October 15, 2025 was the second day of the caravan. The PhilHealth invited knowledgeable resource persons on the YAKAP program and delivered a YAKAP orientation for all the attendees of the caravan to watch. This was done twice: one session in the morning and another session in the afternoon. They also entertained questions from the attendees, helping them understand the YAKAP program better.
Similar to the first day of the caravan, UP Manila employees along with family members opted to avail the services provided by both PhilHealth and UPHS. The aforementioned services were still being provided on this day, giving them the same opportunity especially to those who were unable to attend last week’s caravan.
However, there is a slight difference in the second day: a blood extraction booth was put up by the UPHS, enabling employees who have yet to finish their Physical Examination be accomplished on the same day. Like they say, hitting two birds with one stone!
The rollout of flu vaccinations were also received favorably by the attendees during the second day.
Most importantly, attendees warmly expressed their gratitude and satisfaction for the occasion to have their health checked and be assured of their PhilHealth membership and contributions. Their smiles and laughter filled the hall as the event went by for both days.
All in all, a total of 172 UP Manila employees and 14 family members benefitted the said caravan. With this, the HRDO looks forward to a stronger partnership with PhilHealth Inc. as well as the UP Health Service for future caravan and training collaborations that will ultimately benefit the UP Manila Community and extend towards their family members as well.
