Theme: Height
This theme is a bit difficult for me since I have no idea what subject I should capture to represent "height." When I think of "height," I imagine high places, or rather, objects or buildings that are tall, the kind that reach the sky. Unfortunately, there aren't any places like that in my hometown, so I simply thought of the utility pole in front of our house. It's not much, but I tried to capture it from a lower perspective to make it appear taller. I also included the surroundings to emphasize the difference in height between the main subject and its background.
EXIF Data
Aperture. I focused on the utility pole while the sky (background) was a bit blurry to create a cool ambience while the sunset's light was hitting the subject and its surroundings.
Shutter. There wouldn't be a motion blur if vehicles suddenly appeared in the frame.
ISO. To create the noise/grainy texture and considering that it's a bit dark, I want to capture the surroundings as well properly.
EXIF Data
Aperture. To avoid overexposure and to keep more of the amber baluster in sharp focus.
Shutter. (Not intended to use; I forgot to remove; No effects on the actual image since there are no movements present)
ISO. I want to create a grainy texture that also goes well with the texture of the stones and contrasts the smoothness of the baluster.
Theme: Pattern
Given my interest in architectural design, I decided to capture the terrace in front of our house as an example of a repetitive pattern. I also like how the dark amber color gives off a vintage vibe, along with the grainy texture of the stone. It has a historical setting feel to it. The afternoon light and mood help enhance the atmosphere, not too bright or dark, just the right amount of light bouncing off the baluster and the shadow cast by the stones above.
Theme: Night
I attended the UP Fair: Elements 2025 last Friday with my mother and a friend. It has become a tradition for my friend and me to attend the UP Fair every year to watch musical bands and support student advocacy for land reforms. It was difficult to take photos in this area since it was crowded, and I couldn’t get close to the stage. I randomly adjusted my camera settings based on the results of the photos I took. I initially intended to use this photo for the motion theme, but I decided to place it under the night theme instead since the stage lights helped illuminate the area, contrasting with the darkness of the night. I didn’t particularly like this photo, but I found it to be the most decent compared to my other shots, so I hope this will do.
EXIF Data
Aperture. To let in more light and keep the subjects visible without adding too much noise.
Shutter. To see the actual motion of the light sticks moving, as well as the people.
ISO. To capture the brightness of the lights considering the darkness and to make the image look smooth.
EXIF Data
Aperture. To control the depth of field and make the camera focus on the flower.
Shutter. To create a blurry effect in the background whenever the wind blows the leaves.
ISO. To capture the image with less light, considering the brightness of the sun, and to create a noise or grainy texture in the image.
Theme: Flower
I took this photo of pink flowers on the driveway of the Post Office in Diliman. There are no flowers at home; most of our plants are medicinal or ornamental plants without flowers, so it's difficult for me to capture photos of flowers. I seized the opportunity when I went with my mother to submit her reports for work and took as many photos as I could, given that the flowers were in the middle of the driveway and I didn't want to cause any disturbance in a public place. I chose this photo because it's the most appealing one to me, it captures the beauty of the flower perfectly, is sharply focused, and contrasts the bright pink color with the cool, dark tones of the green leaves.
Theme: Motion
This photo was unexpected because I originally intended to practice capturing a photo with a night theme. I also randomly adjusted the camera settings as part of my testing. However, when I took the photo, a jeep suddenly appeared in the frame, and I ended up capturing it. It turned out well, at least for me, so I chose it for the motion theme. I like the contrast between the blurry motion of the jeepney and the clear stillness of the person inside the store across the street.
EXIF Data
Aperture. To control the focus of the man in the store (background) and the jeepney (foreground) as well.
Shutter. To capture the actual motion of the jeep to make it look like it's moving at high speed.
ISO. To brighten the scene, even though it added some grain, it helped reveal details that would’ve otherwise been lost in the darkness.
