The Experience

Today I encountered a challenge regarding my research direction. During a discussion about my topic, I received feedback suggesting I should pursue instructional design instead of my planned research approach. The feedback implied that research might be less valuable than design work, which was disheartening as I've carefully chosen a research path that aligns with my future goals. Academic differences of opinion are natural, but it's difficult when they affect something I've become passionate about and believe has significant value to education.

Looking Forward

This experience teaches me to exert my integrity. Not everyone has the luxury of time and that is me. Sometimes, we need to compromise things because we can't demand the rest of the world to compromise for us. I'll continue advocating for my research interests while finding respectful ways to navigate differing viewpoints. While flexibility is important, so is standing firm for approaches that advance education in meaningful ways.

This situation is helping me develop both diplomatic skills and the courage to defend methodologies I believe in.
