Approaching deadlines crystalize priorities while positive participant responses validate research relevance despite timeline constraints
It's only been 2 days since my last entry but the pressure is even stronger now! The dates for the townhall have been announced (May 13 to 14) and I'm set to be the 2nd to present.
With the delay of my start since my initial topic was not accepted, I am feeling the impact on my timeline, but I remain positive that I will be able to accomplish the important tasks. Right now, I am working on the pilot analysis of the pilot test alongside writing my mid-progress report and preparing for the implementation phase of my research. I've had some encouraging developments – I have found one student interviewee and a DE expert has replied to me! I truly appreciate these responses, especially considering it's a hectic time for everyone as the trimester is coming to an end.
With less than two weeks left to prepare for the townhall, my goal for this week is to officially launch my survey and interview invitations for all potential participants online (except for DE experts, whom I'm approaching individually). I am grateful for the guidance I have been receiving from my gatekeeper, who continues to provide meaningful feedback to improve my research instruments (See Attachment E.2). Their expertise has been invaluable in refining my approach.
I have so much to accomplish that I wish I could get everything done at once, but I'm reminded that research is a process – something I both admire and look forward to experiencing fully. My primary hope for this week is to finally complete the planning phase of my research and transition into active data collection.
This intense period has reinforced the importance of adaptability in research. As I move forward, I plan to be more strategic with my time management, perhaps breaking down larger tasks into more manageable daily objectives to maintain steady progress despite the compressed timeline.
After this week, my goals are clearly defined: **complete my mid-progress report**, **create and record my townhall presentation**, **share it with FIC and peers for critique**, and in turn, **provide feedback on a classmate's proposal**. This peer exchange will be valuable for gaining fresh perspectives on my work before the formal presentation.
If I were approaching this phase again, I would have prepared a more detailed contingency plan from the beginning that accounted for potential delays in topic approval. Having alternative timelines mapped out might have reduced some of the current pressure.
As I prepare to launch my data collection tools, I'm reminded that quality research isn't just about meeting deadlines but about creating meaningful contributions to our understanding of distance education. This perspective helps me balance my sense of urgency with a commitment to thorough and thoughtful research practice.
