The CSSP-ERB is the ethics review body of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, University of the Philippines Diliman. Its core mandate is to protect the safety, rights, and welfare of human participants and affected communities in social science research while taking into account the interests and needs of researchers and complying with the requirements of applicable laws, rules and issuances of regulatory authorities.
The Board shall review and has the authority to approve, disapprove, recommend, require modifications to, monitor the progress of, or authorize observation or monitoring of the consent process as well as research activities, and require reports for research activities involving human participants. It likewise aims to support researchers towards ethical conduct of human participants research through the provision of sound guidance that considers and respects the particularities of research in varied contexts. It strives to maintain sensitivity to community attitudes and to take into consideration the cultural backgrounds of research participants. It seeks to minimize the unintended consequences of research to the psycho-social wellbeing of research participants and researchers.
The CSSS-ERB logo communicates a sense of equality, inclusivity, and sensitivity. The logo recognizes its responsibility and the diversity of the Office’s work, with its round, spherical design which represent the projects it is involved in. The yellow portions represents the process of approving research ethically. The logo contains the word “etika” written in Baybayin, intended to represent that which the Office intends to uphold: ethics.
The logo also contains several pillars, which both represent the facade of Palma Hall as well as the pillars or principles upon which the Office abides to uphold ethics in the College and its research projects. The illustration also presents inclusivity, as per the feminine figure included.
Mr. Adrian Gabriel of the CSSP Dean's Office designed our logo. It was refreshed by Vayne Altapascine del Rosario in 2024.
