July 2020
MS in Fisheries (Fisheries Biology)
College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences
University of the Philippines Visayas
Miagao, Iloilo
This experience has exposed me to different advanced aspects of fisheries in forms of formal education and research. For my graduate thesis, I investigated the differences in the morphology of the lateral line system of gobies that inhabit different aquatic environments.
October 2019-March 2020
Short-term Student Exchange
Kagoshima University
Kagoshima, Japan
Here, I had the chance to work under Prof. Dr. Kazuhiko Anraku's Fishing Technology Laboratory where I got to learn different techniques to study fish behavior and physiology such as Electrophysiology, Microspectrophotometry, and Scanning Electron Microscopy. Here, I also met different Japanese professors that are excellent in their fields of fisheries science.
April 2016
Bachelor of Science in Fisheries
Cagayan State University
Aparri, Cagayan, Philippines
This is where I learned that I really want to pursue fisheries science. For my undergraduate thesis, I compared the growth and survival rates of Brackishwater Enhanced Saline Tilapia (BEST) in different stocking densities and feeding frequencies.
August 2020-Present
Instructor III
Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanology
College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences
University of the Philippines Visayas
I teach subjects in undergraduate and graduate levels that are related to fisheries and marine sciences. Specifically: Oceanography and Limnology, Fish Capture Technology, Fish Stock Assessment, Actual Fishing, Philippine Fishing Grounds, Fisheries Ecology, Advanced Fishing Technology, Ocean Management, and Marine Zoogeography. I have also developed and co-developed instructional materials for laboratory classes. Aside from those, I stay active in research and is also advising undergraduate and graduate students for their theses.
August 2016-July 2017
Laboratory Aide (Part-time Research Assistant)
Project Title: Adoption of effective fishing and transportation techniques to increase survival of live demersal fishes
Principal Investigator: Ricardo P. Babaran
While taking up my graduate studies, I became part of a research team that aimed to increase survival of handline-caught Apogonids and Nemipterids from Guimaras Island, Philippines. This is necessary for understanding the biology and behavior of these species that have potential for aquaculture and ornamental fish industry. Some of my tasks included training and doing Focused Group Discussions (FGDs) with fishers, transport of live fish, and fish curatorial procedures.
