Lesson 1: Insights to ICT

FELLOW TEACHERS INIGHTS TO ICT AND HOW THEY USE ICT

Mrs. Anna Liza Paubsanon

Instructor - Cebu Technological University Tuburan Campus

"ICT is very significant in today's time due to the pandemic. Since classes were transferred to online.

Before, ICT aids in the classroom discussion by using PPT, video, picture analysis, and music or audio. Now, because of the transition to the new normal classes ICT is mostly used or shall we say 100% useful"

Ms. Hyacinth April Brigoli

Instructor - Cebu Technological University Barili Campus

"The role of ICT in the classroom setting has advantages and disadvantages for me as a teacher. Most of the time it makes our life easier. In some manner, teachers become too dependent on it. As Semenov said in one of his studies that ICT has invaded and transformed many aspects of our lives to the extent that we live in an environment that is dominated by technology which itself is consumer-driven. No matter what we do, they are parts of our life. When it comes to teaching we no longer use the conventional way of teaching we switch from a snap to a digital way of teaching wherein we use technology. And we cannot dent the fact that the technology have had a great impact to our learners. We easily catch their attention, they seems to pay attention easily with the use of technology. I think the use of ICT as well needs to be minimize, I think it is also good that students prefer reading books than researching on internet. We as a teacher have to incorporate two ways so students won't forget the essence of how good and much knowledgeable it is to read books than copy-pasting."

AGREE OR DISAGREE?

I think that the perception my fellow teachers and I both share is the fact that ICT is very useful in the "new normal" setting in education. I believe that we can both agree that the maximization of ICT resources was not fully utilized before the pandemic. And making use of one of the tools of ICT which is LMS (Learning Management System) to help students in becoming active learners.

The thing that I disagree with is the fact that it is not at all 100% useful. Yes, it is beneficial, but there are also a lot of disadvantages. One of which is when students no longer are learning but merely searching for compliance. Also, when ICT is used to disseminate misinformation, and used to corrupt the minds of others.
