I would like to commend the author for doing a wonderful job recording her original piece. The message of the poem was clearly articulated and the emotion was well captured. I really enjoyed listening to her audio clip.
Michelle recorded her poem in her bathroom due to 2 reasons: it was "noise-free" and with "natural reverberating effect." For acoustic treatment she used a towel with the intention of absorbing noise and excessive reverb.
Although the recording is clear, I would have to disagree that the location itself is free from ambient noise. The towel was also not enough to achieve the desired environment. Voices other than that of the author, wind sounds and voice popping were captured in the recording.
Although the background noises are audible, it was negligible and did not greatly impact the presentation nor distract me as the listener. This can be attributed to the author's good voice quality and presentation.
In terms of reverberation, I agree that the natural reverb of the bathroom enhanced the quality of the recording. It helped in setting the correct mood by giving the recording a dramatic effect.
Although the author achieved her desired recording quality, I would suggest the following to improve the recording environment:
1. Advise other household members of ongoing recording so they can control the noise from their end. Hang a "Recording Going on" sign as a reminder.
2. Control wind sounds including popping (air burst from the mouth) by putting a windshield/windscreen. Household items that can be used to cover the phone include foams and stockings.
