WHY I WRITE:
WHY I WRITE:
With Lhoyd's journalism background, he felt that his writing was too technical and lacked poetic nuance. This realization fueled his desire to hone his skills in storytelling, which led him to pursue the Creative Writing program.
"I grew up wanting to be a doctor, so my relatives had high expectations for me to pursue a medical course. When they ask about my degree, I often take a deep breath before answering, “Creative Writing.” Their follow-up questions about career prospects and financial stability no longer surprise me. In a country that undervalues arts and humanities, I’ve grown accustomed to such reactions. But my choice isn’t about wealth or luxury. I chose Creative Writing because it aligns with my passion. I didn’t want to spend college studying something I had no interest in, only to regret it later. Writing allows me to make sense of my life, to find beauty amidst chaos, and to voice the things I’m afraid to speak about. It helps me address inequalities and demand change. Through writing, I find purpose and share my truth with the world."
