Due to the emergence of technology, various activities have been adapted and utilized the accessibility that these devices have offered to us in our modern world. Making use of multimedia has come to light in the field of education. The usage of graphic technology through using two modalities such as verbal and visual presentation to better explain and understand the information that is being conveyed rather than solely using words — defines Multimedia Learning. As such, the construction of multimedia instruction has the following principles that should be followed to have constructive learning using these modalities suggested by the researcher Richard Mayer (2009).

In this crash course on the twelve principles of multimedia learning, we would be dividing the principles into three parts:
Principles for reducing extraneous processing in multimedia learning
Principles for managing essential processing in multimedia learning
Principles for fostering generative processing in multimedia learning
