PROGRAMME FOR THE PROMOTION OF THE EXCHANGE AND SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION BETWEEN GREECE AND GERMANY
Upgrading the Atomic Physics experimental setup at the 5.5 MV tandem Van de Graaff accelerator of the NCSR “Demokritos” by developing coincidence techniques
Objectives
Primary Objective
Upgrade the Atomic Physics (APAPES) installation at the 5 MV tandem Van de Graff accelerator at the NCSR “Demokritos” as to include the option of performing coincidence measurements.
Development of a new gas jet target, a TOF spectrometer, projectile charge state magnetic selection, hardware coincident electronics and data acquisition software to provide electron-ion and ion-ion coincidence capabilities to the APAPES installation.
Secondary Objective (1)
Train both teams’ members, especially the younger scientists, in the coincidence related technologies of the Atomic Physics GSI and “Demokritos” facilities.
The Greek team will be trained in the coincidences technology implementing it to the APAPES installation.
German team will become familiarized with the research techniques and protocol at the APAPES initiative and its new updated coincidence capabilities.
Secondary Objective (2)
Measurements of ELC cusp electrons emitted from C4+(1s2, 1s2s 3S) mixed-state ion beams in coincidence with the carbon charge state.
Benchmark measurements involving N2 fragmentation in collisions with carbon ion beams.
