Level of studies: Undergraduate (Elective), Semester: 10th
Course code: ΙΑΕ905
Weekly teaching hours / Credits: 2 hours / 2 ECTS (course total workload ~50 hours)
This elective introduces the integrated diagnosis and management of acute and chronic leukemias (AML, ALL, CML, CLL), linking morphology and full blood count interpretation with flow cytometry, cytogenetics, and molecular profiling to support evidence-based risk stratification and treatment. Teaching also covers chemotherapy prescribing and toxicity monitoring, allogeneic HSCT, CAR-T therapy, clinical–translational research and trial design, communication skills (including breaking bad news), and hands-on skills via microscopy and procedure videos. Delivery combines face-to-face and online sessions through the e-course platform, utilizing targeted video tutorials, AI-assisted teaching tools, and microscope sessions for smear assessment. The course is taught in Greek; materials and evaluation in English are available upon request (incl. ERASMUS).
In the 2025 Leukemias elective (Spring semester), I delivered two skills-focused sessions: “Presentation and other skills” (8 April 2025) and “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence” (10 April 2025, online; co-taught with G. Farsaris). The first workshop developed scientific communication, storylining, slide design, delivery and voice, audience engagement, and viva-style Q&A, while the AI session introduced core concepts (machine learning and large language models), clinical and laboratory applications in haematology, validation and bias, data privacy/ethics, and safe, reproducible use of AI tools for literature synthesis, protocol drafting, and decision support.
