It all started with a deep desire to see dentistry flourish in Kurdistan. For over twenty years now, I've poured my heart into shaping the future of this profession, and there's no greater joy than guiding the next generation of dental professionals. As the Dean of the College of Dentistry at the University of Duhok, I have the privilege of leading a phenomenal team, but my true passion lies in the classroom.

Shaping Young Minds

I believe the key to successful learning is a dynamic environment. Textbooks are important, but they can't replicate the spark that ignites in a student's eyes when they grasp a new concept or solve a challenging case. That's why I strive to create a space where active participation is encouraged. Lectures are a springboard, not the end point. Discussions, case studies, simulations – I throw everything I have at them, catering to different learning styles, so everyone can thrive.

I boast a rich and diverse teaching experience spanning over two decades.  I have held various positions within the College of Dentistry at the University of Duhok, including:

• Dean (2015-present)

• Head of Conservative Department (2013-2016)

• Lecturer (2007-present)

A Passion for Postgraduate Education

I also actively involved in postgraduate education, supervising numerous Master's and PhD theses.  My commitment to fostering the next generation of dental professionals is truly commendable. With over 12 Masters' thesis, 2 PhD dissertations, and 3 successful Board students under my supervision, I am well-versed in guiding postgraduate students towards academic and clinical excellence. The foundation of my teaching is evidence-based dentistry. The latest research and best practices are constantly evolving, and I make sure my students stay ahead of the curve. But knowledge alone isn't enough. I want them to be critical thinkers, to question, analyse, and solve problems independently. This equips them not just for today's challenges, but for the unforeseen ones they'll encounter throughout their careers.

Lifelong Learners

Dentistry is a field of continuous learning. New technologies, materials, and techniques emerge all the time. I impress upon my students the importance of lifelong learning, of staying curious and hungry for knowledge. It's a message I take to heart as well. I actively participate in research, focusing on advancements in conservative dentistry and endodontics. Sharing my research findings not only fuels my own passion but also exposes students to the cutting edge of the field.

A Globalized Perspective

The world is getting smaller, and our patient population is becoming increasingly diverse. That's why I integrate cultural competency into my curriculum. Understanding different backgrounds and beliefs is crucial for providing sensitive and effective dental care.

Witnessing Growth

Seeing my students blossom into confident, compassionate dentists is the most rewarding part of my journey. From supervising Master's and PhD theses to witnessing their "aha" moments in class, there's no greater satisfaction than nurturing the next generation of dental professionals.

This path I've chosen – educator, researcher, leader – is fuelled by a deep passion for dentistry and a commitment to its future. It's been an incredible journey, and I can't wait to see where it leads next.
