Rise To The Challenge

Eligibility and Program requirements

The following is a list of eligibility and program requirements to successfully apply and complete the program. Please note that in some student cases, this may be a six-months to a year long program.

Eligibility Requirements:

This program is open to current UNLV undergraduate students who:

  1. Are already members of the Grad Rebel Advantage Program

or

  1. Are enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credits per semester) during their Grad Rebel Advantage year

  2. Are in good standing with the University

  3. Have completed 60 or more credit hours at the time that they apply to the program

  4. Have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75

  5. Have not taken a GRE prep course or an Official GRE examination

  6. Admissions

  7. Acceptance in the Rise to the Challenge Program will be competitive.

  8. Eligible students must complete the Google Form found by : Monday, February 15, 2021.

Program Requirements:

Students must maintain a minimum 2.75 overall GPA throughout participation in all programs. Failure to do so may result in removal from the program. Current Rebel Grad Advantage program students will only need to meet the Rise To The Challenge Program requirements and their spring semester requirements. All other students will be expected to complete all Rise To The Challenge Requirements and enroll in the Rebel Grad Advantage Program in the fall semester.

Rise to the Challenge Program

  1. Students will have the spring semester and summer months to complete the following program requirements:

  2. Attend and successfully complete a GRE Prep course

  3. Participate in a practice GRE exam and complete an official GRE exam

  4. Attend a mandatory initial workshop in late March

  5. Attend Monthly workshops From April to August (dates and times will be announced)

  6. Complete the Grad Rebel Advantage Program application to include having a faculty member or academic advisor complete the bottom section of the Grad Rebel Advantage application prior to submission

  7. Selected students will have to complete a pre-and post-survey as part of the program

Rebel Grad Advantage Program

  1. Students will have two semesters to complete the following program requirements:

  2. Attend the four (4) mandatory cohort group mentorship sessions:

  3. Attend the mandatory Grad Rebel Advantage kick-off event (September 4th, 2020; 9:00-11:30am)

  4. Attend the mandatory Grad Rebel Advantage commencement event (April 30th, 2021; 9:00-10:30am)

  5. Fall Cohort Meeting

  6. Spring Cohort Meeting (3-Minute Presentation)

  7. Attend two of the four mandatory workshops (Note: *if you attend more than two, you can use them toward your 5 required elective workshops):

  8. Grad School 101: Everything you need to know about academic options after your bachelor's degree

  9. Undergraduate to Graduate Workshop

  10. Choosing and Being Chosen: How to Select a Graduate Program & Get Them to Select You (Only Available Fall Semester)

  11. Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) Active Reading Workshop

  12. Attend a minimum of five (5) elective workshops for the program duration - these workshops are in addition to the two (2) mandatory ones. The workshops below fulfill the requirements for the Grad Rebel Advantage Program. Please note, you must attend a minimum of two (2) each semester (but you are required to complete at least five (5) ). Failure to complete this minimum will make you ineligible to receive the Grad Rebel Advantage scholarship.

  13. Fall Workshop Schedule will be available in early August.

  14. Academic Success Center: Make an appointment to meet with a coach to help identify your needs or to work one-on-one with a success coach. This appointment would count as one workshop. In order to receive credit for this option please have the success coach email Gradrebeladvantage@unlv.edu

  15. Attend one (1) major campus research event

  16. Attend one (1) campus cultural event

  17. Attend three (3) Mandatory Campus Appointments

  18. Have an appointment with an academic advisor to plan your program completion (fall or spring)

  19. Have at least one appointment with the Writing Center to work on a paper, writing sample, publication, or letter of application (fall or spring)

  20. Have an appointment with the Office of Undergraduate Research to learn how to get involved in research on campus. In order to receive credit for this requirement, please have the consultant email gradrebeladvantage@unlv.edu.

  21. Note that requirements used to fulfill one category may not be used toward another.
