OT-Based HIT! A comprehensive guide to stroke rehabilitation
The Institute of Knowledge Translation is an excellent resource to help understand the progression parameters of high-intensity stepping for patients with neurological conditions such as stroke and partial spinal cord injury. They offer multiple continued education courses for therapists to help train them on the evidence and skills needed for implementing HIT. They also have designed and have all rights reserved for the skill acquisition chart, which is utilized throughout this program. Copyright permission was sought and obtained to include the skill acquisition chart within this OT-based HIT program.
The Saint George Regional Hospital Neuro-specialty Rehab has provided helpful resources and education to develop this OT-based HIT program -- a special thanks to this facility for the education related to HIT and neurological conditions.
The University of Nevada Las Vegas Occupational Therapy Doctoral Program has provided ample education and training concerning best practice and patient/client-centered care in a variety of conditions and contexts.
Special thanks and credit to Dr. Philip Lamoreaux, who provided insight, mentorship, and information concerning high-intensity occupational therapy. Dr. Lamoreaux designed and developed his Life Hardening program, which helped guide this OT-based HIT program's development, specifically how occupation can be intensified. His work can be found here.
DiClemente and Prochaska (1998) are credited with the Transtheoretical Model of Change. It allows for a greater understanding of behavioral transformation. It was combined with the skill acquisition chart to help a clinician guide a patient with SMART goal setting.
