Onboarding Requirements
What is onboarding? Onboarding is the process of preparing a new employee / intern to work at organization. Onboarding can include pre-hire requirements related to health and safety and information training to help the employee be successful at the site.
Onboarding requirements vary by internship site. Please read the details below to understand your onboarding requirements and when should have them completed. Please work with your internship coordinator, Bobbie Jo Trude, if you have questions or concerns about the onboarding process.
All School of Public Health Interns
Before any School of Public Health student may begin any internship them must submit the following:
An Internship Project Proposal , approved by the SPH Internship Coordinator
After the Internship Project Proposal has been approved by the Internship Coordinator, Bobbie Jo Trude. You will receive an email with specific onboarding directions based on your internship including directions for submission. Please watch you rebel-email for specifics, including how to properly submit documentation. The following onboarding items will be required of all SPH Internship Students.
Provide evidence of health insurance (copy of your insurance card)
Sign Exhibit A, Statement of Student Responsibility and Exhibit B, UNLV Student Confidentiality Statement
Pre-Employment (Pre-Internship) Health Requirements
The following Pre-Employment Health Requirements must be completed by all students participating in a Healthcare Internship.
Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration (undergraduate)
Master of Healthcare Administration
Executive Master of Healthcare Administration
Master of Public Health - Healthcare Administration and Policy
Public Health majors are only required to complete these health requirements, if they choose an internship in a clinical setting. The Internship Coordinator, Bobbie Jo Trude, will assign you these requirements if needed.
Immunization verification and record retention is managed by Pre-Check. Please download the Pre-Check Health Packet to complete all health requirements for your internship. You may complete and submit these health requirements up to 6 months before the start of your internship. Do NOT complete the background check or drug test until assigned by the internship coordinator after your Internship Project is approved.
Step 2: Upload the completed packet to Pre-Check
Proof of immunizations or positive titer test of the following:
MMR
Hepatitis B
Varicella
TDAP (within the last 10 years)
Current Flu Vaccine (Oct 1st – Mar 1st)
COVID-19
Current negative 2-step TB Test, or QuantiFERON blood test (within 1 year of start date)
Pre-employment physical (within 6 months of internship start date)
Do NOT complete a the background check or drug test until assigned by the Internship Coordinator, Bobbie Jo Trude. This will be done AFTER your Internship Project Proposal has been approved.
Background Check
Background Check requirements vary by internship site. Do NOT complete your background check until assigned by the internship coordinator. This will be done after your Internship Project Proposal has been approved.
10 Panel Urine Drug Test
Drug Testing is required by most sites, but must be completed with a chain of custody form. Do NOT complete your background check until assigned by the internship coordinator. This will be done after your Internship Project Proposal has been approved.
Note: Students are responsible for all costs associated with onboarding. Medical costs may vary, depending on student health history and medical insurance benefits.
