I teach and mentor students at many levels. This page is dedicated to some of the resources that I provide to students as they make their way toward their academic and career goals.
Pub Club
Title: Faculty Sponsor
Description: Publication Club (Pub Club) is a graduate-level initiative that encourages students to work collaboratively toward a publishable manuscript in their field. Pub Club uses a combination of seminars, one-on-one meetings, and structured feedback to help students as they build out an empirial manuscript for publication. We concluded our inaugural semester of Pub Club in Spring of 2026.
Expectations for Students: Students in Pub Club are expected to participate actively in the development of their manuscript. Students are expected to attend all required meetings, showcase substantive contributions to their group's work, and participate in group discussions and one-on-one meetings. Students who do not meet these expectations will be removed as an author from their manuscript.
How to Get Involved: Students interested in joining Pub Club should ask themselves the following questions before agreeing to be a part of Pub Club:
Do I have time to dedicate to this initiative?
Will a publication serve me in my career goals?
At this time, do I have the bandwidth to give attention to my group's work?
Students who are interested in joining Pub Club for Fall of 2026 should reach out to me via email.
Independent Study
Title: Instructor
Description: Graduate and undergraduate independent studies intend to allow students to dive deeper into core areas of interest. Students work independently with me to build out materials for the semester. Each independent study is unique and based on the student's goals.
Expectations for Students: Students who take an independent study with me are expected to work actively toward a semester capstone. Capstones are determined based on student goals and interests. Students should have an overarching goal that can be tailored during the independent study.
How to Get Involved: Students who are interested in taking credits for an independent study with me should reach out to me directly via email. Students should ask themselves the following questions before reaching out to enroll in an independent study:
Do my interests align with something that Dr. Nur studies?
Am I interested in higher-level reading and writing?
Do I have the time to meet independently with Dr. Nur on a set schedule during the semester?
Depending on my current teaching and mentorship load, I may not be able to accommodate all requests for independent study.
