Welcome! I am a research-focused Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. My core research examines the experiences of individuals incarcerated in prisons and jails in the United States. I further assess how contact with the criminal legal system impacts future development in the areas of employment and education. My goal as a researcher is to provide insight into less-seen spaces of our criminal legal system and bring attention to the difference between policy (i.e., what is written down) and practice (i.e., how written rules are put into action).

I teach a variety of classes spanning corrections, criminological theory, juvenile justice, and broad criminal justice topics. Students who take my classes can expect to learn about the history of our systems, critical takes on proposed policy, and the ways that contact with our legal system follows individuals well beyond their conviction or incarceration.
