How we are assigned babies:
We will get assigned babies either by (1) being ASSIGNED the baby's PMD by Mom - which may occur daily, OR (2) if someone in our group is on call (per the Sunrise schedule) and the baby is UNASSIGNED
The actual rounding attending for that day is per OUR schedule is in Nubia's UNLV attending schedule document
For example if any UNLV Attending is on call on 10/12/21 (per Sunrise's schedule), then all UNASSIGNED babies born from 7am on 10/12 to 7am on 10/13 will be seen by the UNLV attending who is on call on 10/13 (per our attending schedule document). It is courtesy to inform the nursery who will be taking admissions from our team.
We are getting ASSIGNED babies more regularly so whichever UNLV Attending is on call will round on that baby within 24 hours of their birth
UNLV Health Nursery Billing Presentation 2/1/2023
If you code the superbill as 99462 Subsequent Visit and attach a note saying the baby is discharged if the mom is discharged or if certain test results come back favorable. In all those cases, the charge sent to the payor was for code 99238 Discharge.
Here is a summary for you to reference for next time:
99460 - baby is being seen for the first time by the physician and is not authorized for discharge
99462 - baby is seen for a subsequent time by a physician and is not authorized for discharge
99463 - baby has initial physician visit and is discharged on the same day
99238 - baby is discharged on a day subsequent to initial physician visit
If you are unsure whether or not the baby has to stay because mom isn't discharged, the rule of thumb is to code as a discharge if the baby is not going to be seen again.
