The School of Public Health follows guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) in accordance with our community partner compliance regulations. Students will be required to provide evidence of vaccination or a positive IgG antibody titer for each of the following vaccines:
Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis vaccine series (TDaP)
Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2-dose) vaccine series (MMR)
Varicella vaccine series
Hepatitis B vaccine series (3-dose) or Hepatitis adjuvant (2-dose) (HepB)
COVID-19 vaccine series
Influenza vaccine – if working Oct 1st – Mar 1st
Additional Pre-Internship Health and Compliance Requirements include the following:
QuantiFERON Blood Test - within one year of practicum end date
Pre-Internship Physical (Statement of Good Health) – within one year of practicum end date
Clear 10-panel pre-employment urine drug screen
Pre-Internship Criminal Background Check
Do not submit these requirements until you have received approval for your internship from the internship coordinator.
Note: Students are responsible for all costs associated with onboarding. Medical costs may vary, depending on the student's health history and medical insurance benefits. For compliance, all onboarding requirements are managed through a third-party system, PreCheck. Do not email medical information to the SPH Internship Coordinator or your Internship Site Supervisor. The Student Health Center is available for no cost or reduced medical services for all enrolled students. Student fees include but are not limited to: Health Requirements: $54.45, Background Check $49.50 and Drug Test $50.60.

You have 3 options for your capstone project: an internship, a senior paper, or research team experience as a Pre-GA. Additional information about the senior paper and pre-GA options is available in the PBH 911 Undergraduate Handbook. Please contact the Undergraduate Coordinator at sheila.janofsky@unlv.edu if you don't have access to the Handbook.
All options involve 120 hours of work and 4 course credits.
For the internship option, you must receive approval of your Internship Project Proposal from the internship coordinator. Approval is contingent on successful completion of onboarding requirements.
HCA Major, Minimum 2.75 GPA, and HCA 302, HCA 330, and HCA 401. Consent of the internship coordinator is required.
250 internship hours required, 6 credits. Approval of the Internship Project Proposal by the internship coordinator. Approval contingent on successful completion of onboarding requirements.
Students will apply and prepare for their internship during HCA 401, Pre-Practicum in Healthcare Administration.
Consent of Internship Coordinator. Students should have a minimum of 23 credits earned before starting their internship. Can be taken in the final semester if needed.
Please meet with the internship coordinator to review prerequisites and internship options before applying to an internship.
200 internship hours required, 3 credits. Approval of the Internship Project Proposal by the internship coordinator. Approval contingent on successful completion of onboarding requirements.
CPT approval is required for all F1 visa students.
Consent of Internship Coordinator. The internship is typically completed in the semester prior to your culminating experience (capstone, professional paper).
Please meet with the internship coordinator to review prerequisites and internship options before applying to an internship.
250 internship hours required, 3 credits. Approval of the Internship Project Proposal by the internship coordinator. Approval contingent on successful completion of onboarding requirements.

Internship hours are completed within a single semester.
Attend the internship workshops 1 full semester before your internship (Spring and Fall).
Participate in the School of Public Health Job, Internship, and Volunteer Fair.
Submit your Internship Project Proposal on time. May 1st for summer and fall internships, Dec 1st for spring internships.
