Non-profit organizations are institutions traditionally dedicated to advocating for a social cause.
They are tax-exempt charities and operate in religious, scientific, research, or educational settings. They are listed as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charity organizations.
Paid work or working at a family clinic/business does not qualify as non-profit service. Receiving any credit for your service, i.e. extra credit, also invalidates your hours.
Students may not count hours worked for student organizations and athletics where they are a member.
Immediate or extended family members cannot sign-off as your volunteer supervisors; only the head of the volunteer program can.
Note that hours are evaluated in great detail and completing them in no way guarantees membership.
If working in a hospital setting, you must be engaged in the official volunteer program, not working in a doctor's office and/or shadowing them.
