Behavioural Measures of Language Acquisition and language processing

in typical and atypical populations

A joint event of University Ca' Foscari Venice - Venice Accessibility Lab

and NTNU Trondheim - Language Acquisition and Language Processing Lab

The aim of this international Conference is to provide a forum for discussion of recent research in typical language development and developmental deficits. In this field, empirical findings from experimental research often depend on the methodology applied. While advanced methodologies, such as eye-tracking, neurophysiological methods (EEG/ERPs; neuroimaging (fMRI)) have opened new horizons for the study of how language is instantiated in the brains of speakers, they often provide evidence which is on a different time-scale or directly controversial when compared to traditional behavioural measures of language competence (Vulchanova et al., 2019). Our aim is to discuss how these approaches can be combined and harmonized in the study of language development in typically developing children and in children where language and other cognitive skills are compromised (Developmental Language Disorder, ASD, reading impairment).

The conference was to be held in Venice on May 20-21 2020. Due to the pandemic, it is postponed to October 2021. Some of the selected papers are presented in the online conference page
