IEEE Women in Engineering is a global network of IEEE members and volunteers dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists and sparking curiosity in girls worldwide to explore academic paths in engineering and science. The formation of this worldwide community took place on the 29th of June 1997, and since then WIE has proudly supported an ever-growing community of women in STEM and taken steps to promote change in the industry.

Introduced on 1st July, 2021
On the 9th of June 2021, the IEEE Student Branch at the University of Jaffna received approval from IEEE to establish the IEEE Women in Engineering Student Branch Affinity Group (IEEE-WIE-SBAG). With an initial membership of 120, the IEEE-WIE-SBAG at the University of Jaffna began its mission to advance gender diversity and inclusion in engineering fields.
The Inaugural General Meeting took place on the 29th of June 2021, signifying the commencement of our journey. Its purpose was to elect the office-bearers for the 2021/2022 term.
We were privileged to have Dr. (Ms.) Maheshi B. Dissanayake, Chairperson of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section for the year 2020, as the esteemed Guest of Honour at the meeting.
Annual General Meeting - 2022

The inaugural Annual General Meeting of IEEE WIE-SBAG-UoJ convened on the 6th of September 2022, with the purpose of appointing the new executive committee for 2022/2023 term. The esteemed Guest of Honour, Dr. (Ms.) Akila Wijethunge, Chair of the IEEE WIE Sri Lanka Section, delivered an address to the audience. Her speech encompassed an introduction to IEEE WIE, elucidated the advantages of WIE membership, and shared notable anecdotes from her personal journey within IEEE.
