Handing over of Equipment & Vehicles

The ceremonial handing over of equipment and vehicles to the Faculties of Agriculture and Engineering was held on 23.10.2017 at 11.00 am at Ariviyal Nagar, Kilinochchi. Smt. Nadarajan, Consul General of Jaffna and Prof.R.Vigneswaran, Vice-Chancellor and Smt Eng. Manjunath, Consellor (Development Cooperation), High Commission of India, are gracing this ceremony.

The Gender Equity and Equality Center (GEEC) was launched and their Policy Frame work and By-Laws were made available to the University Community. Special thanks to Dr.K.Guruparan, Senior Lecturer and Consultant Gynaecologist (the Chairman of the Center) and his team for developing the Policy Frame work and By-Laws and obtained the approval of the Senate and Council. Prof.Kumudu Wijewardene, the Chairperson of Standing Committee on Gender Equity and Equality was the Chief Guest. The former Vice-Chancellor Prof.(Miss.) Vasanthy Arasaratnam has initiated this and the present Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.Vigneswaran took all the efforts to have this center launched supported with the policy frame work and by-laws.

Career guidance unit (CGU) organized a two days workshop on the second phase of the “Upadhidari Vyaparika Udanaya” an effort to put Brain in to Business on 12th & 13th October, 2017 at the conference hall, Staff Development Center, University of Jaffna with the collaboration of National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA).

Dr. Arunasalam Sivapathasundaram Memorial Lecture was held today at 3.00 pm and Dr Getanjali Sathiyathas, Senior Lecturer in Paediatrics and Consultant Pediatrician delivered the Memorial Lecture on "Tarnished Children of Northern Sri Lanka" focusing on Child care, Child protection and Child abuse with supplementary data and findings from her research studies. Her lecture was exemplary in delivery by explaining the regulations of Child Prevention and Protection and highlighting the current issues with all the supporting evidences using her own research studies carried out in Northern Region. Her recommendations are invaluable under the current context of Child abuse. Dr.Arunasalam Sivapathasundaram was a Professor and Consultant Pediatrician and a good and affectionate teacher who was shot dead with other medical professionals, staff members of Jaffna Teaching hospital and people in 1987 by IPKF. His departed soul blessed all of us on this "World Teachers Day".

The "Center for Prosthetics" inaugurated at the Faculty of Engineering

This Center was inaugurated in collaboration with MyCorps (An international Youth Volunteer Program Under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malaysia) of Malaysia. His Honorable Datuk Saravanan, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia, Mr.Bin Razali (Deputy Director General), Mr.Muhammad Husmar Husin (Assistant Director) of Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr.Izzat Zabir Sariff (Secretary General of Malaysian Humanitarian Aid and Relief, Dr.Noorhaza Alias (MyCorps Secretariat), Dr. (Mrs.) S. Ganeshamoorthy (Chairperson of Jaipur Center), Dr.N.Sivarajah (Consultant to WHO-Jaffna), Dr.N.Surendirakumaran (Head/Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine), Mr.S.Sivachandran, Deputy Director/Planning (District Secretariat/Jaffna), Dr.Jeyanthan, Regional Director of Health Services, General Hospital/Kilinochchi, Dean/Agriculture, Dean/Graduate studies, Heads and staff members of Faculty of Engineering and well wishers, youths and volunteers of the team of MyCorps participated in this event. MyCorps donated a 3D Printer and other facilities to the Faculty. Volunteers from MyCorps South Asia together with Faculty of Engineering, organized a 3D Printer Prosthetic Training (during 25-29 September 2017) with the main aim to educate the participants on 3D Printer specifically on its usage in producing prosthetic and tools that will help improving life of disabled people. Appreciations to Prof. A. Atputharajah (Dean/Engineering) and Dr. A. Anburuvel (Head/Interdisciplinary Studies) being instrumental to obtain such facility to the Faculty.
