Dear Friends,
Welcome to Forestry Association (FORA), a Student Society of Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
We created the FORA with the intention to protect the existing forest cover and increasing more than 30% and make interaction among stakeholders. In Sri Lanka, dry zone has widespread landscape diversity occupying two third of its land. Its richness is uncovered. The role of different stakeholders in dry zone landscape is essential for the conservation of dry land ecosystem in a sustainable manner. However, active and mutual involvement of multi stakeholders are still lacking towards good governance and maintenance of dry zone landscape. In Sri Lanka, each stakeholders on different landscapes are functioning independently. It is the biggest threat and challenge to formulate the policies and legislation for good governance of dry zone tropical landscape. Consequently, the country faces huge environmental problems at alarming rate. Therefore, there is an urgent need to address these multi issues in dry zone landscapes for conservation of natural resources. It includes different disciplines such as biodiversity of flora and fauna, water bodies, soils, vegetation, agriculture crops and other land uses.
We hope that the FORA is not only to establish and encourage a lasting feeling of friendship and cooperation, organization, supervision of activities among members through participation in various projects, recreation facilities, education and social activities, broaden the member’s knowledge of forestry by discussing topics of general interest regarding the field and encouraging contact with professionals in the field, demonstrate the benefits derived from proper multiple use of forest resources, including the following: timber production, wildlife management, and recreational uses.
It is our duty to protect and conserve ecosystems for all living forms
