Dr. Kengatharaiyer Sarveswaran

Kengatharaiyer Sarveswaran is a computational linguist specializing in Tamil and other South Asian languages. He is a senior lecturer at the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, and a visiting researcher at the University of Konstanz, Germany. He leads or co-leads research projects, including DigSAL and the development of a Sri Lankan Tamil corpus. He has secured multiple grants, created resources such as treebanks and grammar as well as tools like parsers, published in peer-reviewed conferences and journals, delivered keynote addresses, supervised postgraduate students, and organized workshops and summer schools. He is committed to building tools and resources for Tamil and other South Asian languages.
Dr. Sinnathamby Mahesan

Sinnathamby Mahesan is a dedicated academic and researcher with expertise in computer science and statistics. He holds a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Wales, an M.Sc. from Cardiff University, and a B.Sc. in statistics from the University of Jaffna. With a strong background in postgraduate supervision, he has guided Ph.D. and M.Phil. scholars in areas such as machine learning, sentiment analysis, information systems, and image processing. His contributions to institutional development include designing and introducing new degree programs and curricula in computer science at multiple universities in Sri Lanka. Dr. Mahesan's work plays a crucial role in advancing computing education and research in the region.
Dr. Eugene Yugarajah Andrew Charles

Eugene Yugarajah Andrew Charles obtained his B.Sc. (First Class) degree in computer science from the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, in 1999, and his Ph.D. in computer science from Cardiff University, UK, in 2007. He is currently serving as a senior lecturer (Grade I) at the Department of Computer Science, University of Jaffna. His research interests include blockchain transaction analysis, natural language processing (NLP) for Tamil, digital library resource description, and applied machine learning.
Mr. Velayuthan Menan
Research Assistant, Department of Computer Science, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
Menan Velayuthan graduated from the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology. After graduation, he worked as a senior associate at Stax LLC in the Data Science and Analytics team, where he primarily focused on R&D in NLP tools. Later, driven by his interest in research, he joined the SLIIT Faculty of Computing to contribute to a World Bank-funded project under the AHEAD program, focusing on building mobile-friendly, lightweight head pose estimation models using a Deep Set architecture. He then had the opportunity to work as an AI research fellow at Pi School, Rome, Italy. He also worked as an AI research engineer at the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, on a Google-funded project on neural machine translation. Currently, he is in the final stage of completing his research-based master’s degree at the University of Moratuwa. Alongside this, he is also working as a part-time research assistant at the University of Jaffna under the guidance of Dr. Kengatharaiyer Sarveswaran.
Mr. Suthakar Sivashanth

Suthakar Sivashanth received his B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in computer science from the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, in 2024. He previously worked as a software engineer at Shalom Global Pty Ltd, specializing in mobile and web application development. Driven by his passion for research, he is currently pursuing an M.Phil. in Computer Science at the University of Jaffna while working as a research assistant in the Department of Computer Science. His research interests include machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), natural language processing (NLP), and artificial intelligence (AI). His current research focuses on developing an OCR system for the Tamil language.
Ms. Ahrane Mahaganapathy
Research Assistant, Department of Computer Science, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
Ahrane Mahaganapathy is an ML engineer and research assistant with a strong interest in machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and generative AI. She holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Information Technology and is currently pursuing an M.Phil. in Computer Science at the University of Jaffna. She has expertise in predictive modeling, ensemble learning, support vector machines, and large language models (LLMs). Her current research focuses on developing a text-to-speech system for the Tamil language. Previously, she worked at Innodata Lanka, where she gained experience in data transformation, workflow automation, and prompt engineering. She has also contributed to AI-driven research projects, including flood prediction using machine learning.
Ms. Sumirtha Karunakaran
Research Assistant, Department of Computer Science, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
Sumirtha Karunakaran received the B.A (Hons.) degree in Arts from the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, in 2023, obtaining First Class honours. She was also awarded the University Prize for the best performance in Linguistics at the Second Examination and Fourth Examination in Arts. She is currently working as a Research Assistant in the Department of Computer Science at the same university. Her current work focuses on phonetic transcription verification and data curation for text-to-speech systems for the Tamil language.
