To the parents and guardians of 7th grade Language Arts students,
My name is Hilary Reinhart, and I am excited to be teaching your student Language Arts and Literature this year! This is my ninth year teaching, my fifth in the district, and, as a Unity graduate myself, I take a lot of pride in teaching in Unit 7.
I have a lot of plans for this seventh grade language arts class that include reading novels, short stories, poetry, as well as learning all different forms of writing including their own nonfiction narrative, a research paper, argumentative and informative essays, and poetry. However, you can also expect us to continue to reinforce the basics:grammar and vocabulary.
Daily, your students will be expected to bring all of their supplies to class; this includes their literature textbooks, notebook/binder, writing utensils, and their AR books. Because of this year's unusual schedule, time to read during class may be limited, however it is essential that they have an AR book and have it with them daily; please see the section on my web site about AR for more information.
Your students will be expected to turn all of their assignments in on time (unless absent per student handbook). If an assignment is late, it can be turned in for a reduced grade (per student handbook). Students do have the opportunity for extra credit through reading AR; extra credit in addition to this will generally not be provided. It is my intention to post all assignments and/or relevant course information on to Google Classroom site which your students can reach through the UJHS webpage (as well as multiple other locations). To reduce contact this year, it is my intention to go as paperless as possible. Students will complete their assignment on their Chromebooks, and all assignments (with very few exceptions) will be turned in via Google Classroom (or via their online textbook IN Google Classroom).
If at any time you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I respond quickest through email: reinharth@unity.k12.il.us.
It is my hope that throughout this school year, we can work together to instill in your student the importance of writing and literature, to take them on journeys to places they can only reach in books and to guide them on an exploration of themselves through writing. It is my goal to create students who have the tools and abilities to be successful and become lifelong learners. I look forward to meeting and getting to know each of my students.
Sincerely,
Hilary Reinhart
