Back Flippers - The leg(s) of a turtle.
Bridge Scutes - The 4 plates that create a bridge between the caramel and the plastron that connects them together.
Caramel - This is the upper part of the turtle's shell.
Century - 100 years
Central Scutes - The 5 plates that are along the middle of the turtles back from behind the neck to the tail.
Critically Endangered - At high risk of becoming extinct.
Endangered - This means that there are low numbers of species, and it is at risk of extinction.
Esophagus - The part of the throat that food travels through into the stomach.
Extinction/Extint - Does not exist anymore but at one point in time the species did.
Front Flipper - The arm(s) of a turtle.
Genetic diversity - Variation between the same species, that helps it to adapt to its changing environment.
IUCN - International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
Migrates - A species moving from one habitat to another due to seasonal changes.
Mediate - To bring about or to bring awareness to.
Near Threatened - This means if the population continues to decline, the species is at risk of becoming threatened.
Plastron - This is the under part of the turtle's shell.
Scutes - Plates that form a turtle's shell that is death issue made up of the mineral keratin.
Threatened - This means that the population is declining and at risk of becoming endangered.
Ventilation - The process of breathing.
