The Hawksbill Sea Turtle (Eretmochelys Imbricata) is one of seven types of sea turtles in the world. It has been on the USFWS (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services) critically endangered species list since 1970. Hawksbill Sea Turtles are smaller-sized sea turtles where adults get up to 30 to 36 inches in length and can weigh up to 100 to 200 pounds. This sea turtle has extra scutes that overlap and help to protect it from prey species and in strong currents or weather. The caramel of the turtle is a dark brown-yellow-golden color with light-colored lines and or blocks throughout the shell; the plastron is a yellow-golden color. The body (head, arms, legs, and tail) is brown and light yellow in color and has a hawksbill-like beak. The hawksbill turtle migrates to its preferred temperatures for mating, food, and living; they can be found in the West Atlantic, Indian, and Indo-Pacific Oceans, like Connecticut, New Jersey, Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and more. Hawksbill Sea Turtles help to maintain coral reef health due to their diet of sea sponges when doing this it gives reef fish space to feed. The Hawksbill Turtle provides many benefits and helps to maintain the Maire ecosystem so that it is healthy and should be protected due to its ecosystem benefits.
