Red pandas have reddish-brown "tear" marks to help shield their eyes from the sun. Their dense and woolly coat helps to keep their bodies warm with hard temperatures. Red pandas also have semi-retractable claws. Red pandas also secrete a colorless liquid to scent-mark territories through anal glands, urine, and scent glands at the bottom of their feet; they are the only carnivore with this adaptation. Their feet are padded with fur to help grip onto slippery branches. Their ankles are extremely flexible and the fibula is attached in a way that makes climbing easier and so that they can climb down headfirst. Unlike other carnivores, red pandas have extremely dense dentition because of their leafy diets. They also have simple carnivore stomachs. Red pandas share a pseudo-thumb with giant pandas.; this adaptation helps them grip bamboo.Â
