LEVEL 1: This course - four hours per week -  aims to develop general communicative abilities along with the language skills necessary for the more specialised tasks that students will be required to do in the 2nd and 3rd year. Level 1 students are expected to do approximately 6 hours of independent study each week.

PRE-LEVEL 1: At this level, rather than a course, students are provided with support with the aim of consolidating their knowledge of English. They will be required to follow the online course (Corso di Riallineamento di inglese A2-B1) and to attend tutoring sessions with a teacher for two hours once a week. As well as the remedial course, students will also be expected to begin work on the set book (see below) in preparation for the lettorato exam in September. This means that they will be expected to do at least 10 hours of independent study per week.

LEVEL 2: This is a short course (2 hours / 2 months) that will enable students to do the first-year exam successfully in January. The course will mainly focus on exam practice and revision and reinforcement of language structures. Students are encouraged to do the exam in January, but if they wish, they may continue attending courses in the second semester with a Level 1 group and take the exam in May.

First-year past papers and Dictation Practice

Past Use of English papers and Dictation practice are available on Moodle: Esercitazioni linguistiche - Lettorati di Lingua inglese – Prima Annualità Triennale  https://elearning.unito.it/lingue/course/index.php?categoryid=169.

The past grammar and vocabulary tests available, and the sample exam papers also available here on this website, are copies of the paper version of the exam, but the type of questions are exactly the same as those used in the computerised test. Each paper has a key to enable students to check their answers.

As for the old dictations, as well as the audio files, there are the transcripts and a pdf file with indications on how the dictation is assessed. The vocabulary list based on the textbook, On Point can be downloaded here

Useful websites:

BBC 6-minute English  containing hundreds of listening exercises that help to develop listening skills while broadening vocabulary. The activities are easy to access and relatively short.

test-english which is particularly recommended for grammar exercises with clear explanations when you make a mistake.

British Council

ATTENDANCE 

If you sign up for a Lettorato you are expected to attend regularly, do homework that is assigned and also do additional self-study work.

While not compulsory, regular attendance is very important and if you are absent for three consecutive lessons you will lose your place in the lettorato group.
