API sono componenti di software. Lo sviluppo con base in API è un modo per integrare i sistemi con base nel riuso di software. Quando si pensa en sviluppo basato su API, se pensa en riusare le funzionalità che sono già consistente (sono già stati sottomessi a testing). Dunque, funzionalità su sicurezza dei dati, monetizzazione di servizi ecc. possono essere integrati en nuovi sistemi che sviluppano soltanto le nuove funzionalità.
